Community Safety Advice

Young people with Safer neighbourhoods,
painting the TRA hall

This event was part of the year long partnership project on the St Pancras Way Estate which has been underway since May 2005 and includes Cantelowes SNT, ASBAG, Housing, Community Safety and other Council depts who have worked at reducing anti-social behaviour, building positive relations with youths and creating a better and more secure living environment for the residents of the estate.

The painting of the hall on Wednesday 19th April was one of many tasks where Cantelowes SNT, ASBAG Youth worker (Marina) and the council have engaged with youths to deliver better provision of youth services on the estate. The building painted will be opening a new youth club in coming weeks, which will obviously house the c-world project as part of it.

"The tenants hall was looking a bit dull and full of graffiti so it was decided at the JAG meeting that the district housing office would supply paint and materials and Marina would provide some cash to get buy a BBQ and some food and drinks for the tenants who took part in painting the hall. Safer Neighbourhoods police team offered to lend a hand with the painting.

Luckily enough on the day the weather was quite nice. Safer Neighbours along with c-world and other residents old and young from the St Pancas Estate joined forces and worked together transforming the dull TRA Hall into a bright blue work of art – hopefully it will stay free from ‘tag’ names…

By the end of the exercise there was more paint on us than there was on the brushes.

The day was ended with a well deserved BBQ and we had all worked up a pretty big appetite."
