Think about your route beforehand when travelling, especially if you're going to be on
your own.

Safer cabs

Cabwise is supported by the Mayor of London, the police and Transport for London. Each month 10 women are raped or assaulted by men pretending to be cab drivers. Don’t put yourself at risk. Always use a licensed minicab, black taxi or night bus to get home.

How to use CABWISE:

  1. TEXT: HOME to 60835 to get the numbers of one taxi and two local, licensed minicab companies
  2. PHONE: one of the number provided
  3. CAB: picks you up
  4. HOME: safe and sound

Safer walking

Think about your route beforehand when travelling, especially
if you're going to be
on your own.

  • Look confident! Walk head up, as if you know where you are going
  • Keep to well lit roads. Don’t use alleyways or short cuts
  • If you think you are been followed, cross the road. If the person follows cross over the road again. If you are still worried go to a place where there are lots of other people like a shop or restaurant and tell someone what is going on
  • When it's dark always stick to well lit areas

Safer travel on public transport

  • When you travel on the buses always have your ticket of oyster card ready so that you can keep you wallet or purse out of sight at all times
  • On station platforms always stay in well -lit areas
  • If a bus is empty or dark stay on the lower deck or near the driver
  • When getting on a train or tube always look for a carriage with several other passengers
