LiFE
LiFE is a course that is focussed on educating young people in the community on fire safety and self improvement. Whilst young people are on the course they learn a range of practical skills which real fire fighters use on a day to day basis. This might be bowling out hoses and making them up properly and quickly, how to climb ladders safely, how to use breathing apparatus, how to search buildings with zero visibility and much more.

Not only does LiFE educate young people it also provides exciting and fun activities, which you usually wouldn’t be able to do. Some of the things that LiFE teaches you are teamwork, leadership skills, self-belief and how anything is possible if you set your mind to it.

Before I went on the programme like lots of people I know, I was bored and had nothing else to do apart from causing trouble and committing crime. I thought that nothing good could come of my life, but then I was introduced to the programme through the youth offending team. After completing the course I got a great sense of achievement knowing that for once I had set my mind to doing something and had actually followed it through, whereas in the past I would usually have given up after a day or two.

Now four months after completing the course I have carried that same sense of achievement and self-belief and have focussed it on my education. I recommend LiFE to every young person as it will teach you something that will change your attitude, your ambitions and help you in later life.
